Misdiagnosis All Too Common

I applaud Ms. Minogue for speaking out against this event. I see and hear it all too frequently, of am told "the doctors can't find out what is wrong".

With all the time and energy used to preach against the use of supplements, herbs and homeopathy, you might think that doctors, upon which rests the laurels of the health care system, deserved or not, would be as up to date as possible on diagnosis.

You would also think they would be up to date on thermography as a much more effective tool for diagnosing breast cancer, than breast cancer causing mammogram.

LOS ANGELES, April 8, 2008 (UPI) -- Australian pop star Kylie Minogue revealed on U.S. television that a doctor initially misdiagnosed her when she had breast cancer.

"Listen, this is an opportunity for me to say something that I have not said before," People.com quoted Minogue as saying on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" Monday.

"I was misdiagnosed initially. So my message to all of you and everyone at home is, because someone is in a white coat and using big medical instruments doesn't necessarily mean they are right," the singer said, explaining she was told she didn't have cancer when she actually did.

People.com said Minogue didn't disclose who made the mistake or exactly when it happened, but she stressed, "If you have any doubt, go back again."

Minogue, who is now in remission, said she felt moved to talk about the misdiagnosis after U.S. presidential contender Sen. Hillary Clinton spoke earlier on the show about the importance of early breast cancer detection.
